AVAILABLE:
August through November. Similar to a green apple, in size and shape with a mild flavor combination of peaches, lemons, mangos, coconut, caramel and vanilla, depending on the variety. The creamy colored flesh of the White Sapote is very sweet and custard-like with several flat black seeds. Black Sapote flesh resembles and tastes similar to chocolate pudding. Both have thin skin and will bruise easily. Ripe fruit will give to gentle pressure. Cut in half, remove seeds, and scoop pulp from skin. Excellent in blended fruit drinks or sprinkled with lemon or sugar. STORAGE: Ripen at room temperature then refrigerate. DISPLAY: Display with other sub-tropical or specialty fruits. NUTRITION: Low in calories, Sapotes are high in potassium and Vitamin C and are a good source of fiber. |
