All year. This vine fruit is round and 3 inches in diameter. Its color ranges from dark purple with faint white specks, to light yellow. The purple-brown skin becomes brittle and wrinkled when ripe. Inside, the yellowish, jelly-like pulp has a lemony, tart flavor and contains an abundance of small, black edible seeds. Cut fruit in half and scoop out pulp with spoon. Juice is generally used fresh to top ice cream, soft fruit, or in fruit drinks and smoothies. Passion fruit juice may be cooked for use in sauces and fillings. STORAGE: Ripen at room temperature. May be stored in refrigerator for a few days. DISPLAY: Cross merchandise with papaya, mango and limes. NUTRITION: High fiber and low sodium. |
