May-June Lychee is juicy and sweet, 1 to 2 inches in diameter and covered by a thin bumpy, leathery shell. The tough textured skin ranges from pink to red to brown with a translucent grape-like flesh. Lychees have a rosy-grape flavor with an aromatic perfume. Usually peeled and black seed removed then eaten or used in fruit salads and sauces. STORAGE: For commercial storage, keep at high humidity and at 34 - 40ºF. At home, store lychees wrapped in a paper towel and perforated plastic bag refrigerated for up to 2 weeks. Do not peel until ready to use. DISPLAY: Display with other tropical fruits such as starfruit, pummelo, kumquat and Ugli fruit. NUTRITION: Good source of potassium, excellent source of Vitamin C and low in calories. |
