AVAILABLE:
July-August Longans are similar in taste and texture to lychees. They grow in clusters and are round about 1 inch in diameter. Under the thin, brown textured skin the flesh is translucent, white, and crisp. Peeled, longans are eaten fresh out-of-hand (avoiding the shiny black seed), baked in pies, used in fruit cups. STORAGE: Can be refrigerated for 2 weeks. DISPLAY: Definitely feature longans as a premium, short season specialty item. Nutrition: Low in calories and a good source of Vitamin C and potassium. |
