Also called Carambola, this fruit resembles a star when sliced cross-wise. When ripe, the skin turns a thin, glossy yellow color with some brown spots along the ridges. The taste ranges from tangy sweetness to lemon tartness. The entire fruit is edible except for the small, flat seeds. Best eaten out of hand, in salads, juiced in drinks, grilled or as a festive garnish.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature until ripe. Keep refrigerated in a paper or plastic bag for about one week.
